Information Hood River Ranger District; Northwest Forest Pass

On the east shore of Lost Lake, Lost Lake Butte is a rather modest Cascade feature, but it bids hikers skyward, as it has done for more than a century. The trail ascends from the old growth and rhododendron at the base of the mountain up through a huckleberry-crowded mid-elevation forest to claim the summit opening (elevation 4,468 feet). Views take in the icy grandeur of Mounts Adams and St. Helens in Washington and Mounts Hood and Jefferson in Oregon, the sparkling jewel of Lost Lake in the basin below, and the upper Hood River drainage. A popular forest service campground and a rustic resort serve area hikers who choose to linger a spell.
